Copyright grants
Corporate entities
If your company has developers working on OpenRasta, you should fill in the corporate copyright grant.
Individuals
If you're an individual, you need to sign and return the individuals copyright grant.
If you're employed (even by a university) and your work contract mentions that your work is covered by your employer's copyright, you'll need to request from your employer permission to contribute code back in the project. Once you've signed the individual copyright grant, you'll have to forward an authorization from your employer to commit code to the OpenRasta project, as well as a guarantee from your employer that none of the code you're submitting is covered by their IP. If need be, send an email to copyright@… and we'll try to find a way to make everyone happy with the contribution.
Isn't open source software supposed to be free anyway?
Yes it is, and this is exactly why we need to ensure that the code that gets submitted by contributors comes with an open license, and that the contributors have the rights to the contributions they make. Without taking those measures, the whole project could stand to a halt at the first roadblock.
