Internet Media Types

An Internet Media Type (called mime type in the early 90s, and sometime referenced as Content Type, after the name of the message header in http and emails) is an identifier for file types that is standardized by rfc 2046 (which can be found at  http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2046).
